He emerged as a central figure in the civil rights movement in the United States during the 1950s. His leadership was solidified in 1955 during the Montgomery bus Boycott in Alabama, a pacific protest against the racial segregation in public transport. This movement was the beginning of many pacific actions that sought to dismantle segregationist laws in the southern United States. In 1963, King organized the historic March on Washington for job and freedom, where he pronounced his emblematic speech “I have a dream”.
